Title: Over the Course of Time Author(s): Courtney_Solo Timeframe: BytS Genre: Everything? [sheepish grin] Characters: Anakin Solo & Tahiri Veila Keywords: Er.... Courtney_Solo ? Summary: Anakin and Tahiri ... wait! We're starting at the beggining! They meet at the Jedi Academy ... dang, that's boring. SOOOO, I spiced it up a little bit with what some people refer to as romace. Hmmm... I need something to hook you in ... oh! When I get to Myrkr, I probably won't kill Anakin Solo... PROBABLY. Notes: I think the summary basically covered this column as well. Let's see... someone tell me if I need lessons is romantic writing. Disclaimer: *is sitting in a dark room with one bright light being shown at her. Someone is holding a gun to her side, probably Yodas-evil-twin. [face_laugh] * "Do you own Star Wars?" he asks. *I look around nervously, then burst into tears* [face_worried] [face_cry] "FINE! YOU GOT ME! Star Wars isn't mine," *inhales* "LEMME GO!" ******** Anakin Solo walked slowly out of the Milleniun Falcon. His legs seemed to collapse, he was out in the middle of nowhere, it seemed. "WHY!!! " he yelled. Luke Skywalker laughed and walked up to his nephew. "It's only the Jedi Academy, Anakin." Anakin grinned sheepishly. "Oh." His uncle rolled his sky blue eyes and picked up Anakin's luggage. "Welcome to the Jedi Academy. Tionne is going to show you around the temple and help situate you in your new room-" "-don't you get tired of saying that?" Anakin interjected. Luke shrugged. "Yeaaaahhhh ... anyways, once you're settled you can go down to the lobby and make friends before classes start." Anakin sighed. "I don't make friends easily, Uncle Luke." His uncle smiled. "Then maybe that will change," They rounded a corner and met a wonderous humanoid. Her eyes were considerably large , and their color was of that of a pearl. (*hopes her english teacher doesn't see*) "This is Jedi Historian and Master Tionne. Tionne, this is my nephew, Anakin Solo." Tionne took Anakin's hand and guided him into the temple gently. "I'll be showing you around the temple in the next few days." "Thanks," Anakin said softly, Tionne smiled. "I'm sure you'll make friends soon. You haven't even met anyone yet, so don't worry." An entusiastic young learner zoomed past the, bumping into Anakin. "Go home, Loser." Anakin looked to Tione, eyebrows raised. "Well, that's one friend I won't make."
Anakin plopped down on the bed. Strange, he thought. There are things already here.Suddenly, the door opened. A young girl, about two years younger than he, was standing in the doorway open-mouthed. She had swirling blond hair, it moved gracefully around her face, as if a grentle breeze was constantly stirring it. Her eyes were a sparkling emerald and they were widened in fear and wonder. She opened her mouth to scream, but Anakin smiled and held up his hands. The girl ran out of the room. "Hey, wait!" Anakin went to his door and watched her run wistfully. "I'm sorry I scared you." he whispered. He sat down on the bed and sighed. A few moments later, Tionne entered the room. "I'm sorry, Anakin, I've seemed to have assigned you a room already occupied by Tahiri Veila here," She beconed to the girl behind her. Tahiri was biting her lip nervously. "Yours is next door to hers, perhaps you will become friends." Tahiri shook her head and ran off. Anakin sighed and transferred his luggage to his real room. A knock sounded at his door. He opened it, and a Jedi padawan was standing there. "You scared the shy girl," he stated. "I-I did?" Anakin stuttered. "Yeah. She's so freaked that someone got in her room, she stopped talking to Tionne." "Ookay...?" "Tionne is the ONLY person she talks to EVER. She's barely even said 'thank you' to the lunch lady. Although ... considering the food they serve here, I don't think ANYONE's ever said thank you to the lunch lady..." "Where is Tahiri now?" "She's in her 'secret hideout' behind the rose bushes in the daisy field." "Can you show me where that is?" "Sure."
Tahiri played with her hair sorrowfully. Anakin walked up slowly behind her. "hey," he staed softly. She jumped up, startled. Anakin held up his hands and smiled. "I'm sorry I startled you, Tahiri." Tahiri frowned and turned to run off, but Anakin caught her arm. "I'm sorry!" The sincerity behind Anakin's ice blue gaze must have convinced Tahiri of his exclaimation. She hesitated and he smiled wider. "Will you be my friend?" Tahiri shrugged. "I suppose so." She whispered, so softly that Anakin could barely hear. He took her hand and guided her to the lobby. "What's your favorite game?" He asked. Tahiri smiled and went to the sabacc table. "I like this game," she said in a normal voice. Anakin grinned and sat on the opposite of the table.

Not if you do it right. You're supposed to bend at the knees. Yet, I know what you mean. My back hurts, too. Not from bowing, though.

4 Years Later"Favorite game?" Anakin Solo asked. "Sabacc," Tahiri answered. "But you've known that since I was nine." She and Anakin had been friends now for a while. { Author's Note: This fic IS AU, so some of the JJK adventures happened, and some didn't.} "Favorite color?" "Blue ... it's so much better than sand colors. Blech," "Favorite Master?" "Tionne," "Of course. How could I not have guessed?" 15 year old Anakin Solo teased his best friend. Tahiri stuck our her tongue and glanced at the playing board. She allowed a sinister laugh to escape from her lips. "I don't like that laugh." "Since when?" "Well, I've only heard it just now ..." Anakin pretended to think. "But I still don't like it." Tahiri grinned and won the game shortly afterwards. "How about three out of six?" Anakin challenged. Tahiri smiled and leaned forward. "I would, but it's obvious I'll win." 4 Years Earlier "Why don't you tell me a little bit about yourself?" Anakin sighed. "Not much to tell, really. My parents are Han and Leia Organa Solo. I was born on Nespis VIII. I have two 13 year old siblings names Jaina and Jacen Solo, they're twins. Uhhh ... I'm named afer my grandfather, Anakin Skywalker. Not much more to say. 'Course with you around that may change." "Wait - did you say 'Anakin Skywalker'?!" "Yup." "Anakin Skywalker killed many of our - uh - the Tusken Raider's klan many years ago. His mother had been captured by our tribe, and she died. He killed them because of her..." "-My grandfather was a sith." Anakin stated softly. "Oh," Tahiri smiled and began her story to change the subject. "I was born on Tatooine to Tryst and Cassa Veila. My parents were mysteriously murdered, and after that, I was curiously found and raised by Tusken Raiders. There was no one to talk to, only Sliven - my foster father - understood Basic. I eventually learned that he didn't exactly speak it very well, so I quit talking all together. Then, Master Skywalker and Master Tionne found me. I've been here for almost two months, yet no one has bothered to try to make friends with me. They think I have a 'gaffer stick hidden in my closet'." "Well, do you?" " Yeah... but that's only for protection," she laughed. "Unlike the lightsaber, I am fully trained in its use and I am aware of its capabilities. In fact, I used to be a Tusken scout before I came here. I was the youngest one ever ... I made history back there," she sighed. "I miss Tatooine."
Thinking back, Anakin couldn't believe he had been jealous of a planet. Tahiri smiled fondly at him. "What is it?" he asked. "Even though I've only known you for a little while, well, OK, 4 years, I feel as if ... I dunno ..." "You've known me for a lifetime," Anakin finished. He gazed unwaveringly into her wonderous green eyes, she blushed. "Yes ... exactly," she smiled. "And I can trust you ... more than I can trust my own 'family'." One minute she was in her bed, looking up at the ceiling, the next, she was in a raft, holding a silver paddle. What a transition. "What the -" Tahiri looked upwards. 'This seems familiar,' she thought to herself. A great wind came up, blowing the thirteen year old's hair around her pretty face. A sudden, black storm cloud blew up over the river, causing the raft to rock back and forth. She was tossed into the middle of the raft, on top of something.
"Oww!" Or someone. Tahiri turned around, Anakin Solo was sitting there, a worried expression on his face. "Are you okay, Tahiri?" he asked.
"This is so weird!" She sat up. "Ack!" A humongous wave hit the raft, ejecting Tahiri. 'One problem,' she thought. 'I can't swim to save my life! And I need to save my life! I'm so dead.' Her frantic gaze caught Anakin's. His eyes conveyed his worry. He reached out his hand, and Tahiri attempted to grab hold of it.
"Tahiri!" he exclaimed. But it was too late to save her, she was fully underwater ... never to surface again.Tahiri awoke from her nightmare with a start (A/N: don't they always?!). Sweat clinged to her forehead. "Eww ... gross," she sighed and walked over to the 'fresher. After soaking under semi-cool water for about 2 minutes, she stepped out of the shower and slipped a silk nightgown over her person. Her buzzer rang, and Tahiri answered it. Anakin Solo was standing -er - fidgeting in her doorway. She was about to ask him why he had to use HER toilet and not his own, but decided against it. "Anakin?" Her took her shoulders in his strong grasp. Tahiri blushed slightly. "You had a vision, didn't you?" He stated. Tahiri noted Anakin's tan chest and strong muscles briefly and blushed deeply. "U-Uh... y-yeah ... how did you-" "I sensed it," "Is becoming your best friend like being added to your favorites list?" Tahiri sighed. Anakin laughed. "You're the only one on my favorites list," The way he said it and his fond gaze made Tahiri's heart skip a beat. "Stop looking at me like that," she whispered. Anakin flashed her the infamous Solo-grin. "Why not?" She stiffened. "It's making me feel uncomfortable." He sighed and let her go with an apologetic glance. "Sorry," Anakin smiled. "Now, what did you see?"

"... and I died," Tahiri finished. "I drowned," Anakin's face paled and he stared off into the distance. Tahiri began to shiver. "I've had that dream before," she whispered. Her friend took her quivering hand. "This time I really will die."
"No, you will not," He looked into her eyes, his gaze filled with fear and concern. "I won't let you." He stroked her cheek and leaned closer to his beautiful friend.
"Anakin, you're making me uncomfortable," Tahiri moved slightly away from him. "Did you dream something, too?"
He sighed. "Again ... sorry. Yes, I dreamt you died. Tahiri, you're my best friend, my ONLY friend-"
"-yet you obviously want to be sumtin moe than dat." Tahiri muttered to herself. (A/N: the spelling was altered to show the pronunciation)
"What?"
"Nothing, go on," she stated.
Anakin sighed. "I should leave."
"What? Why!? You need to help me sort out my vision," She trailed off as he walked to her door. "What is your reason?" Tahiri went to him. He looked into her eyes hesitantly.
"These feelings ... these wonderful feelings ... I need to sort them out," he stated. She furrowed her brow, her blond hair fell into her green eyes.
"What feelings?" Tahiri asked. Anakin reached out and tucked her hair behind her ear and kissed her cheek. The kiss was lingering and tender, sending a million goosebumps down Tahiri's spine. Anakin's lips moved slowly towards hers. Their mouths briefly touched at first, then Anakin moved closer. An electric shock seemed to travel throughout Tahiri's body, one of deep affection. It startled her. She pulled away, her eyes wide. "No! No, I shouldn't have done that," Anakin touched her arm. "You need to leave. I-I'll see you tomorrow. We need to sort out the dream." She practically pushed him out of her room. Tahiri shut her door and leaned against it, almost in shock. She touched her lips and thought about her relationship with Anakin Solo. He had changed her. What had happened to her resolve not to become attached to anyone? If her soon-to-come adventure on Tatooine didn't kill her, this mysterious river would. And she would NOT drag her friend into death.
Tahiri took her breakfast and sat down next to Anakin, as usual. Anakin looked as if he had just seen a bantha speak. "You don't hate me?" He whispered. She shook her head.
"Last night caught me off guard. Annie, I've been thinking. I think we should just remain best friends. I'm not ready for a next step," she whispered back.
Anakin nodded and patted her back warmly. "I understand. I'm sorry, Tahiri. I just ..."
"You just ... what?"
He looked into her eyes. "I just needed to tell you how I felt." Tahiri blushed.
"Will you wait for me? 'Til I'm ready?" She asked. Anakin nodded. "Cool. Thanks, Annie," Tahiri sighed. "Now about our visions ... I think it's going to happen pretty soon."
"Why would you say that?"
"Because, I can't die," At Anakin's expression, Tahiri continued. "I'm under a ... cussing. A cussion is the combination of a curse and a blessing. Y'know, when you think something's good, but the outcome might not be. Remember when we went to Tatooine and had our adventure there? Well, when we left, Sliven cast a 'cussing' on me. He said I could never die by anything other than Tatooine."
"Well, that's good news, right?" Anakin asked.
Tahiri shook her head. "Unfortunately, I have to head back to Tatooine to battle a Krayt Dragon in order to stay here at the Academy."
"Well, I'll fight it with you,"
"I have to fight it alone. It's the Tusken way, and if you break that tradition..."
"Why should you care, you're not a Tusken. You're a Jedi; a human!"
She raised her eyebrows. "Who said Raiders aren't human? And besides, Sliven is my father. You're biological father is alive, Annie, be thankful. I only have a pendant with my parent's thumbprints and Sliven. And that's all I want."
Anakin sighed. Tahiri took his hand and smiled. "Okay, I'll let you fight it alone. But if it looks like you're about to be killed, I'm stepping into the fight. No matter what you or the Tuskens say." She nodded.

A Week Later
It was dark and rainy, and wherever they were had LOTS of stairs. Tahiri, who was beside him tripped and began to fall down the steep staircase. She cried out and Anakin grabbed her hand. He pulled her upright, and with the combined forces of gravity, ended up with Tahiri pressed against his chest. He gulped and pulled away, but kept holding her hand. She smiled, then their surroundings shifted.
Tahiri was running from a Krayt Dragon, calling out Anakin’s name, but it wasn’t for help. “Anakin, go! Leave! I can handle myself!” She was exclaiming. Anakin saw himself leap forward and bring Tahiri to safety.
“Not without you,” The scene changed once more. It was still dark, but the clouds and sky were a mix of grey and green. He was lying on the ground looking upwards. An immediate pain came over him, and he cried out. Tahiri was seated on the ground next to him, crying softly. Anakin reached out and wiped the tears from her cheeks; she surprised him by taking up his hand and kissing it. “Don’t die, Ani,” she whispered. He tried to answer, but he couldn’t. She shook him. “C’mon, Anakin! Remember all the good times we’ve had? You’ve got to come back to me!” Tahiri closed her eyes and sobbed into his chest.
Anakin looked up and saw a strange sight. It was a younger Tahiri, she was watching them from afar. The strange part? Two Tahiri’s. Anakin walked over to her and grasped her arm. Tahiri didn’t seem to notice. “Tahiri?” he asked. She jumped and looked at him.
“Anakin!? What are you doing here?”
“I am having a strange dream…”
“Me too. Ani, I dreamt you rescued me at Tatooine from a Krayt Dragon, kept me from falling down potentially fatal stairs, and died here … protecting me,” she paused. “Why?” Anakin gave her a fond look and she smiled.
“Can you not guess?” he stated. She shrugged. “I love you,” he lowered his voice to a whisper. She blinked. Anakin encircled his arms around Tahiri’s waist. “Can I kiss you in a dream?”
She laughed. “Why not? You’re obviously going to anyways.” They leaned forward, and just when their lips were about to touch… they woke up.
Anakin sighed and pounded the bed in frustration. He laid back down on his bed and stared up at the ceiling. Anakin heard a soft knock at his door. “Come in, Tahiri.” She entered his room quietly.
“Did you just have a dream?”
“Yup.”
“Did you …er …”
“I promise you, I was going to keep my word and wait ‘till you were ready,” he said, sitting up.
“Thanks. So, are you excited about our new mission? We get to go to Vader’s Fortress! If we find Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber, we might be able to come back here before Tatooine.”
“Yeah, ‘so excited’! Did it ever occur to you that the Fortress might be the place with the stairs? Vader liked stairs. They built up his strength.”
“How would you know?” Tahiri teased.
“He’s my grandfather, Tahiri,” he began. She blushed. “ -… people tell me things.”
“Right. Make me look stupid in front of your teddy bear. Thanks,” she muttered.
“You’re never stupid, Tahiri,” Anakin stated, lying back down on his bed. She sat down beside him and began to play with his hair nervously. “Is there something you’d like to tell me, or are you going to give me braids?” Anakin teased, catching her hand and holding it above his head randomly.
“What would you say if I told you that I thought about our relationship and decided I was ready to become a little something more than best friends?” Tahiri asked quietly.
Anakin’s eyebrows shot up. “I’d hafta ask what your terms are.”
“I’d answer that the terms are that I can only be kissed on the cheek, and that you can only put your arms around my waist when we’re in private or at a private party. And I’d ask that you not touch me where you know I wouldn’t want to be. Then I’d ask you if you thought that was fair.”
“Then in that case, I’d say it sounds like a plan,” Anakin whispered back. He sat up and encircled his arms around her waist.
“Uhhh… can we move away from the bed?” Tahiri asked.
Anakin laughed. “Yes, but you know I wouldn’t do that to you.” He stood up and walked over to the middle of the room, Tahiri’s waist in one arm. She smiled.
“This isn’t romantic, but my heart is still fluttering like a herd of butterflies,” she whispered. Anakin smiled fondly at her, his gaze no longer made her nervous. Soft music began to play; Tahiri sensed that Anakin had pressed the holokeys through the Force. They pressed their foreheads to one another’s and began to sway to the music. Anakin’s gaze remained unwaveringly on her eyes; Tahiri’s gaze remained also on his. Anakin leaned over and pressed his lips softly on Tahiri’s cheek. His mouth didn’t move towards hers as before, and she sighed and rested her head on Anakin’s muscular shoulder. They remained in each other’s arms until Tahiri fell asleep. Anakin carried her gently back to her room and laid her down tenderly on her own bed. He tucked her in and kissed her forehead lingeringly.
“Good night, Angel.”
