How to Write Vignettes/’Fics
by
Courtney Solo
When you write a vignette, you mainly have a short idea in mind.
Vignettes are good for agsnty-romance (my strength), short, descriptive action sequences/battles, and linking ‘fics. (Such as a short paragraph describing what happens between one ‘fic and another.)
You want to make sure that you acutely describe every detail you see in your head of the scene you are portraying. It may take a while, and you may grow impatient, but it is important to get the (even slightest) details down.
Your points need to be made cleanly and decisively. If you have any trouble making the sentences “flow”, PM me, and I’ll give you pointers.
Also, you must have a good idea. I can be spontaneous, (hehe, those are fun!), but it should be well thought out. (Bad Example: Oh, Anakin should survive Myrkr). Well, yeah, we’d all like that, but how? (Good Example: Anakin should survive Myrkr by transferring his soul to a Vong body and wait for it to actually look like him.) {This actually happened to one of Luke Skywalker’s old girlfriends Callista.} Now, you have a more solid idea to build on. Ya read me?
Most of these lovely notions can be applied to ‘fic writing as well. Your points must always be delivered smoothly, not hurriedly (unless required by the plot). Being patient with the details is extremely important in ‘fics, too.
However, your plot bunny for the ‘fic must be much more broad and thought out.
(Bad Example: Anakin and Tahiri go out on an adventure.)
Ummm, ookay. That’s nice – that went far.
(Good Example: Anakin and Tahiri sneak out and meet a rogue ‘friend’ in the woods. As it turns out, this ‘friend’ is working for the Yuuzahn Vong (or bad guy). He/she kidnaps Tahiri, and she and Anakin are separated for several years. They are united again after all that time and … [face_love] .) Much better. The plot can be extended in all ways. Do you get my point?
Cool, that’s your lesson.
BONUS LESSON FOR NEW PADAWANS!!!
~LINKING~
The 1st part: type [link=
The 2nd part: insert the URL [link=http://www.starwarsandmore.proboards58.com
The 3rd part: finish off the 1st part with a bracket, then proceed to type your title, and end it with [/link].
My Title Here
Do NOT add any spacing anywhere in the link.
This mistake has been made many times.
Exceptions: the title. But that’s a “duh”.
It should end up looking like this: My Sample Link
If you want to bold you title, do so inside the link:
StarWars&More
The same can go for italicizing, colors, underlining, etc.
Exceptions: highlighting. To highlight a link, do it on the outside.
