Summary:[/u] Kyp Durron can remember babysitting this Solo brat. How come he's falling in love with the woman standing before him now?
Notes:[/u] This vignette is basically a sequel (or epilogue) to “Babysitting Solos” by JediBettyBug18. I have obtained her permission to refer back to her vignette. Also, you may be wondering why I am writing Kyp/Jaina. Well the truth is – I am a K/J convert.
Disclaimer:[/u] “In non-news today, Courtney Solo does NOT own Star Wars. Also, the sun rose at its usual time, and the earth continues to spin on its axis in customary fashion.
34 year old, Jedi Master Kyp Durron, sat at his desk leafing through holofiles. Yes, he did it the eccentric way. Sometimes being eccentric annoyed Kyp. Especially today, now that he couldn't find his comlink. Luke Skywalker's 5 year old son, Ben, walked into the room, wearing a big grin. “Hey, Master Durron. Guess what!?”
Kyp chose to amuse the youth. “What, Ben?”
He asked with an expression of 'undivided' attention.
“My cousins, the ones who were fighting in the war, have come home now that the war is over!” Ben grinned wildly.
“Wow, that's great, Skywalker,” Kyp stated. In his absentminded search for his comlink, it never occurred to him that Ben's “cousins” were the Solo's. A knock sounded on his unlocked office door. “Come in.”
A young woman with dark brown hair and light, hazel eyes entered the room. She walked with grace. “Hello, are you Kyp Durron?” His beautiful guest asked.
For the first time in his life, Kyp was speechless. “Yes,” he said simply. “Who are you?”
Oh, smooth, Durron.
“You don't recognize me? I'm insulted,” the woman winked at him, and Kyp's heart soared.
Easy, Durron. You've only just met her. No, worse. You don't even know her name. How can you fall for a ... nameless ... woman? Kyp's thoughts made no sense. The woman sat down in one of his office chairs. The nametag on her orange jumpsuit flashed at him.
SOLO
“You're a Solo?” Kyp looked closer at the woman's face. She seemed familiar ... Suddenly, it hit him. “Jaina!? Jaina Solo?!” He broke into a broad grin. She smiled and nodded, coming around his desk to give him a hug. Inside, Kyp was moaning. No, she's not 'unnamed'. You've known her name since she was born! You changed her diapers! You babysitted her! “Wow! How've you been? You look great!”
“I've been good, now that the Yuuzhan Vong war has ended. I'm still getting over Anakin's death,” Jaina sighed, as if saying the name hurt her. Kyp felt stupid. He didn't know who 'Anakin' was.
So, he asked. “Who was Anakin?”
Jaina looked at the floor. “My baby brother. Well, he was only 2 years younger than me, but still...”
“I'm sorry,” Kyp stated sincerely.
“I am, too,” Jaina sighed. “Well, I guess I'd better go. It was nice to see you, again.”
“Hey, listen, I'm free for lunch, would you like to come with me? I haven't seen you since you were two, for Force's sake!” Kyp laughed.
Jaina's expression was apologetic. “I would love to do that. I really would. But I already made plans with my boyfriend, Jag Fel.” Oh, great, she has a boyfriend.
“That's okay. Another time?”
“Tomorrow?”
“Perfect.”
Jaina left, leaving Kyp to his thoughts. “I remember the first time I babysitted them..”
Jaina had been crying. She had fallen and skinned her elbow. He had sung her a cheesy tune (off key). ”Mommy says kiss make it better,” Jaina had said, pointing to her sore elbow.
”Oh, really?” Kyp had asked. It was code for “You're not so bad”. He had kissed her little elbow.
”Hurt here, too!” Jaina had pointed to her nose with a wide grin. Kyp had complied ... feeling a bit used.
“Oh, well,” Kyp sighed, turning back to finding his comlink. It was lying right in front of him.
Kyp Durron was relaxing at home, watching a new holovid. He was now 35, and Jaina had been home from the war for nine months. A knock sounded from his front door. Kyp stood and opened his door. Jaina Solo walked in, crying a bit uncontrollably.
“Jaya? What's wrong?” Kyp asked. She couldn't control herself enough to speak. “Oh, Jaya, please don't cry.”
“I-I'm sorry,” she gasped out. Kyp pulled her into a hug.
“It's okay. Even though I don't know what's wrong, I'm gonna help you get through it,” he whispered to her.
“Jag dumped me,” Jaina wailed into Kyp's shoulder.
“Jag's a jerk,” Kyp stated matter-of-factly. Jaina look up at him in surprise, laughing a bit. “It's true! You're a truly marvelous person, Jaina. You deserve better than the likes of Jagged Fel.”
Jaina smiled softly. “I'm glad you think so.”
“You wanna watch a holovid with me?” Kyp asked gently, pulling back a little. Jaina nodded and wiped some of her tears away. They sat down on the couch, and Kyp started the holovid at the beginning. Jaina was fine during most of the movie, until ... the romance scene.
She began to cry, again.
Kyp drew her into his arms for another hug. “Hush-a-bye, Jaya, quiet your cries. Do it for me, I'll wipe the tears from your eyes. Grant me this wish, and I'm yours forever. Just stop crying – 'cause I love you, is that enough?” Kyp sang (again – off key), knowing it would make Jaina wonder.
“What was that?”
“It was a song I sang to you when you were little. It was off key and didn't rhyme, but you stopped crying,” Kyp grinned. Jaina laughed and reached up to wipe her tears. Kyp wiped them for her.
“I sorta remember that. Didn't I make you kiss my elbow?”
“And your nose.”
Jaina laughed. “I liked the feeling of 'butterflies in my tummy',” she groaned. “Ugh. I have a headache from all that crying.”
Kyp leaned over and kissed her forehead. Jaina's heart began to mend as the butterflies and feeling s she'd had for Jag turned towards Kyp. It was then that she realized that she'd wanted this for a long time – since she was 2.
“Better?” Kyp breathed onto Jaina's shoulder.
“Yeah, but now my cheek hurts,” she pouted. Kyp kissed her cheek willingly.
“Better?”
“Oww! I bit my lip!” Jaina complained. Kyp slid his hands along Jaina's jawline and tilted her head towards his. He pressed his lips to hers with all the wondrous passion of a patient man. And she kissed him back.
“Better?” Kyp asked, a bit breathless.
Jaina only smiled at him. “I love you, Kyp Durron.” She stated, unashamed.
Kyp grinned. “I love you, Jaina Solo. I have loved you for a very long time.”
Jaina grinned. “I held out for someone much much better than stupid you-know-who,” she leaned in for another kiss. Kyp complied tenderly.
Kyp lay on the couch; Jaina curled up beside him.
A light blanket covered the loving newlyweds.
