Title: Ghosts of the Past Author(s): starwarsfreak Summary: Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker are on a mission to save the survivor's of a ship that died 50 years previous... If there are any. Notes: Yes, there will be an OC! Disclaimer: MUCH of this DOES belong to Timothy Zahn and George Lucas DOES own the STARWARS universe. I give them both FULL credit for getting bit by a plot bunny first. ***************************************** "Fight them off! Seal the lower levels! Send half a quadrant down to meet them! I don't want ONE Vaagari coming through that door!" Lola shouted as the soldiers scurried to obey the Jedi Knights order. Lola Jinzler looked over at her older sister.
"Lorana! We cannot hold the lower levels for long, even with lightsabers. We'll have to go into blank range combat." Jedi Master Lorana Jinzler nodded her agreement.
Switching on her lightsaber, Lola ran down the hall persuing the soldiers. Lorana stayed in the shadows until the Vaagari came her way. There was no doubt in her mind that she would die defending the Outbound Fight. Lola raced to her sisters side.
"Come on, Lorana! Back to back." They stood back to back, protecting each other and others from the oncoming wolvkils and Vaagari warriors. Then the plasma cannons came. Lorana was hit first, knocked to the ground, obviously dead.
"Lorana!" Lola cried out, not letting the tears creep into her eyes. Then she was clipped painfully in the side, and she lowered herself to the ground. She was barely aware of being lifted onto a stretcher and hearing a voice say, "Take her to the morgue."
She settled back and tried to set herself into a healing trance. Do or Do Not, There is No Try. Dean Jinzler awoke form his nightmare with a start. Wiping some sweat from his face he lumbered over to the sink to rinse off. "That's the third time I've had that dream since the Jedi came aboard." He grumbled to the air. No sense in trying to go back to sleep again, so he laid his overweight body back down on the bed. "50 years." He mumbled. "It's been 50 years since the Outbound Flight and these sithspawned nightmares hafta start now of all times." He tried to roll over onto his side, but couldn't. "I really shoulda gone with that low-carb diet." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mara shifted in her sleep, and Luke smiled. He and Mara had been married 3 years now and they had rarely seen eachother. Now that they were on the same mission, life felt more complete. His thoughts strayed to the mission. Were the survivors of Outbound Flight - if there were any- alive still? 50 years later? And what had happened to cause it to die? So many unanswered questions... Mara turned over. "Y'know what else is unanswered?" Luke shook his head. The doorbell buzzed. "-The Door." She sprung out of bed and put a Jedi robe over her PJ's. Luke did the same. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "The Vaagari are cutting the engine!"
"The ship is dying!"
"So am I ." Lola grumbled, bot nobody heard her. They were too busy trying to avoid being squashed. The two Jedi that were supposed to be protecting them were dead, or..at least one was. Lola herslef was as good as dead.
"I guess I'll go into another trance." Lola whispered to herself before sinking into the black void of unconciousness. Luke answered the door, and Dean Jinzler gave an apologetic smile. "Please forgive my intrusion at this hour, but I have no one else to turn to." _______________________________________ Good? Bad? I would love to see your comments! ~Courtney~

Just like all others I've seen you write, starwarscrazy, this looks promising! More, please!
This looks like it will be a very awesome story, and maybe even more popular than Betrayed. *GASP* Can it be? We'll see!

Well, personally, Cursed Waters is my favorite, cause it's spooky. But Betrayed can get weird at times! Example: You know Krista Fett? Do you REALLY know Krista Fett? Do you THINK that Krista is actually Krista or could it be Kiera (someone you haven't been introduced to yet) Oops! *hides*

*smiles* I actually have no idea who Krista Fett actually is. I've never heard of her until I read Betrayed. I was under the impression you made her up! I have so much to learn about the EU, it isn't even funny.

You can call me 'admin' or 'Courtney', I get enough of the 'Freak' part from Nathan (viper1) he knows me in real life and he goes to my church. He likes to tease me (to say the least)

*laughs* Is ur Nathan a techie or just a teaser? Nathan (viper1) knows all sorts of technical stuff and does stuff on the computer that kinda freaks me out.

Well...I don't actually know how techy my Nathan is. He doesn't have too up-to-date electronics, so if he were techy, I wouldn't know. He might be more hi-tech if his pc worked properly...

*wipes sweat from face* Whew...: Update! --------------------------------------------------------
The black void of sleep, healing. Time seems to stop, years could be seconds andminutes decades. There was no way to tell...
"I realize that telling you this story will probably reveal how very old I am." Dean Jinzler chuckled softly, Mara and Luke smiled politely.
"It all begins when I was four, my older sister, Lorana, was six, and my youngest sister, Lola, was two. My parents worked at the Jedi Academy as an engineer, my father, and housekeeper, my mother. We were nowhere near rich, and lived in the poorest of poor conditions. But my parents didn't care, their whole lives centered around the Jedi, and when the time came for us to be tested, only my two sisters passed. I have no doubt that my parents loved me, but they did not pride in me as they did my sisters."
" 'Look! There is your sister Lorana! And Lola! They look so formal with their padawan braids don't they?' My mother would state. That day I resolved to become something better than they could ever acheive." Jinzler looked at the ground. " I'm sure the only reason I achieved my goal is because they both died protecting the Outbound Flight when Iw as only 20."
"How do you know they died?" Luke asked him. Mara could tell Luke hoped that at least one of them was still in existance, he still had doubts about the Jedi Order.
"When you never hear from anyone ever again, that pretty much means they're dead or don't want to be found." Luke remembered Yoda, what if Dean Jinzler's sisters didn't want to be found?
"Anyways, since you arrived, I've been having dreams in which my sister Lorana dies, but my sister Lola survives but is badly wounded. I do not know whether to take it literally."
"Take everything literally, or at least seriously. You say your family is force-sensitive?" Mara asked.
"My sisters were the only ones to pass the test."
"Why didn't you?"
"I wasn't strong in the force."
"But you have some sensitivity?"
"I suppose." He answered bewildered.
"Then you should take your dreams very seriously. Your sister may have very well survived." Mara leaned back in her chair.
"Commanders Skywalker." A Chiss voice sounded over the commlink. "We are approaching Outbound Flight, the Commander you will be traveling with is Commander Chak Fel and Unit Aurek-Seven of the Imperial Five-Oh-First Legion." Mara's eyes grew a centimeter wider.
"Well, I have stayed long enough. Thank you for your advice." And at that Dean Jinzler left the room.
"The Imperial 501st was Vader's peronal squadron during the rebellion." Mara whispered to Luke. "How'd they get their hands on that?"
"Just stormtroopers." Luke put his arm around her.
"They haunt my steps!" Mara plopped down on the bed. Luke got up and walked to the door. "Ahem,...Luke."
"What?"
"You're still in your PJ's."
"Oops. Are you?" She pulled back her cape to reveal clothes. Luke rolled his eyes and dressed quickly.
"Better?"
"Much."
"Let's go meet Commander Fel." Mara waltzed out of the room with Luke on her tail.
*****************************************
Commander Chak Fel stood beside his 501st Unit as the Jedi Masters approached. The woman was incredibly beautiful and her husband was decent looking. He (Chak) bowed.
"Welcome, Mara Jade Skywalker and Luke Skywalker." Chak smiled and all the stormtroppers saluted. Chak thought he saw Mara's smile twich.
"Shall we go?" Luke asked after an uncomfortable silence.
"Yes. Troops out!" Chak ordered, and they entered the Outbound Flight.

For some reason, even when I try to write him good, he always comes out looking dumb.

|
Post by JediLeia on Oct 26, 2005 17:29:40 GMT -5
He doesn't look dumb. In order for this story to work, (at least the way I THINK it's heading) Luke has to feel okay about this. Actually, if I were Luke, I might not pick up on that either. My friend, Staci, and I always try to guess what a story's going to do before it goes there. We've gotten pretty good at it, in my opinion.
For example, here are some standard story rules. Oops...wait...I have to write this:
*POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING*
1) The more two people hate each other, the more likely they are to fall in love. 2) If the bad guy is not openly revealed, it's always the person who seems the least likely. 3) If one character has doubts about something, and the other thinks they're crazy, the first character is usually right.
*END POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING*
I can't think of any more right now, but usually you can predict what will happen, even by just following those rules.

"Creepy." Commander Fel whistled under his breath. Mara touched a cobweb and jumped back when a skeleton fell from a hole through the wall, she caught it and set it down with the force before it could make to much noise. "Very Creepy." She said shakily. "I hate skeletons." Luke remembered Mara telling him that when she was 5 her family had been killed by snipers hired by Palpatine. Ever since then she had dreaded skeletons more than ever. "Where should we head first?" Fel asked. "What about the hospital ward?" Dean Jinzler suggested hopefully. Luke nodded. "Mara and I will go with the Dean down to the sick-bay. Fel, you and your unit keep a sharp eye out for survivors...or their enemies." Fel nodded his agreement and the stormtroopers saluted again. "OK, let's split up." Luke,Mara and Jinzler headed off in the direction they assumed the ward was. "What now, sir?" A stormtrooper asked Chak Fel. "We wait." Fel plopped down on the floor, the stormtroopers eyes him wonderingly. He looked up. "Make yourselves comfortable, just keep your weapons close-by and on 'stun'. ************************************************************************************* Mara walked in first, then Jinzler and Luke. She turned to the Dean. "Can you sense her?" "What?" "Can you reach out with the force and sense your sister?" "I'm not sure. Why?" "Oh, it could've been helpful." She turned to the many beds of covered bodies. "That panel indicates that there is a faint heartbeat somewhere in this room. And it's growing stronger." She looked at her husband, and Luke understood. Dean's sister was a Jedi, and possibly waking up from a healing trance. Luke started to reach out with the force, then stopped and turned to Jinzler. "Reach out. Feel with the force if the person you are searching for is alive." Jinzler looked at him uncertainly, but didn't object. He closed his eyes and tried his best to stretch out with the force, and he felt a flicker of something. "Keep going." Luke encouraged. "She's somewhere over there." Jinzler walked over to his assumed destination. The Dean stretched out once more and found his target. "It is! It's Lola!" He exclaimed. Mara and Luke came up beside him as he removed the cloth covering her body, expecting an old woman. But before them was a young woman, not a day older than 18, who was supposed to have died 50 years earlier. Her chest began to rise and fall and she groaned. Then her eyes shot open. "Lorana!" She cried. Jinzler covered her hands with hs. "I'm afraid that sister Lorana is dead." He whispered. Luke felt her reaching out with the force to sense her surroundings and the people talking to her. "Who are you?" she asked cautiously. "This is Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker-" The Dean smiled at Lola. "-and I'm Dean Jinzler." Lola's eyes grew wide. "Brother?! How come you're old!? Did you trip into an aging unit again?" Mara smiled at Luke. "How come you're NOT old?" The Dean asked. "Because I'm supposed to be 18!" "You're supposed to be dead!" "And I'm not... ..." She asked sarcasticly. The Dean leaned closer to her. "You were supposed to have died protecting the Outbound Flight 50 years ago." Lola's lip curled in disgust. "I'm 68 ?! Eww! I'm an old Jedi Knight!" Luke stepped forward. "Actually, if you put yourself into a trance, then your age, features, and spirit could have been preserved." She looked for the first time at Luke and Mara. Easy, farmboy. Mara sent him. You're going Super-Jedi again... "You are both Jedi. Jedi Masters." Loal said. "And you are married." Luke's face twiched. "Congratulations to the both of you." "Thank you." Mara tipped her head slightly. "Can you walk? We have to go now, there are people waiting our return." "So the Vagaari were defeated?!" "No one accept you survived...as far as we know." Luke informed her. "Oh." Lola stretched. "Ohhh... that felt good." She sighed and put her hands beside her head and pushed, the bed rolled away while she flipped forward in the air, landed, and then stopped the rolling bed with the force. "I've always been one for stunts." She grinne dat their shocked faces. "Commander Chak Fel and his unit of Stormtroopers are waiting for us." Mara supplied as they ran out of the ward. "What are stormtroopers?" Lola asked sheepishly. Oi...
