Chapter 4
Tahiri is dead. I echoed the words around in my head, which Knight Solo had just told the council. Her death was mostly irrelevant. She as well as her Joiner friends had betrayed my order. For this I had exiled her to that rotting planet.
It is true that Jaina had also betrayed me, but I am merciful. Especially to those Jedi with ‘special talents’. Jaina is my niece and is very useful to me; she will stay in the order till I am finished with her.
I notice she has started talking again.
“We found her body near the old cave. It was pretty beat up, but it was her alright, I could feel her lingering force signature.”
“What about the other exiles?” Jacen asked, from his seat to my left.
“She was alone, and I could not sense Tessar or Lowie on the planet.”
“Think they killed her do you?” this from Bour on my right.
“It is possible Master”
“I believe Master Bour wanted your opinion.” This was Kyp who sat left of Jacen.
I can sense her frustration well up at Kyp’s remark. She never liked him treating her as a child. I wonder if anything is going on between them. I would normally enter her mind and extract the information I want. However I restrain myself, it would be unwise to proceed in such things in front of the council.
She hesitates for too long. If there is one thing I truly cannot stand, its time wasting, I am a busy man and Knights drawing out there reports like this dose not help.
“Speak when you are spoken too Knight Solo!” I command, my voice low but forceful.
“Forgive me Grandmaster, I just do not see the relevance in the question.”
“That is why he is a Master and you are still a Knight!”
I do not fail to notice the hurt in her eyes, nor the small smirk from Duroon.
“Yes Grandmaster.” She quickly recovers her natural posture, “It is my belief that the other exiles did not kill Tahiri.”
“Come to this conclusion, how did you?”
She hesitates again, but this time I can see why, she is struggling to say what she has to say, it brings her too many unpleasant memories, and most of all it makes her feel lonely.
She is weak.
“I know what it is like to be a Joiner.” A small sigh escapes her, “They could not have done this. It would be like committing suicide.”
“They were insane, suicide is common practise for the mentally lost.” Jacen did not have much time for Joiners, the reason for this still remained a secret to me. I hate secrets.
“Sanity depends greatly on your point of view Master.”
“Thank you Solo, but we will do the lecturing here; wait until you become a master before you start handing out your ‘wisdom’.” I hate it when Knights think they know everything.
“I spoke out of turn, I apologise.” She bowed low.
“What else can you tell us about the body.” Corran, ever the detective.
“It was mutilated. There were no signs of lightsaber slashes. She appeared to have been beaten to death, though judging by the impact wounds, I would say what ever did this punched harder than a war droid.”
“A Force user?”
“Definitely. Nothing else could defeat a Jedi with a lightsaber, by hand.”
“She used her saber against it?” This was Kyle who spoke.
“Yes, it was close to her body. The crystal had been taken out, when I found it.” she lowered her voice, “The shards were where her eyes should have been.”
None of the masters portrayed their emotions physically, but through the force I could see their disgust, interest, their worry, and I could have sworn I could feel some amusement. However as always Jacen was an impenetrable wall to me.
I longed to know what secrets he held in his head, he had some I was sure of it, but what? I know he dose not stay in the temple like most of the Jedi these days. Jacen would complete a mission or council meeting, then just take off in his ship, his presence was impossible to trace.
I will have to hire some more spies to follow him.
As I muse, Jaina is dismissed and I notice the council is awaiting my thoughts.
“It appears this threat has shown itself, I believe the Jedi are being hunted.”
“Hunted?” Master Durron asks with what appears to be disbelief, “The Jedi are not Cath hounds.”
“You will show respect to the Grand master!” Barked Corran, the ever loyal apprentice.
“Even when he is wrong?” I felt my anger boil up at Kyp’s remark, I want to knock him back into his place. He should know better than to question me.
“If divided we are, fall we will. And destroy what we have made this aggressor will.”
The hall falls silent, and I look at each Master.
I can know, something is going to change, the Jedi are on the verge of a split. I must control them it’s the only way. This is why I became Grand Master; this is why I rule so strongly.
Is it? The dark voice asks, and I know it holds a truth, a truth I will not even contemplate, even to myself.
Nevertheless, I do what must be done, and I do not look back.
“Master Durron, stand.” My voice is emotionless.
I can sense his confusion, and I feel him rise from his seat, my eyes are shut.
“You know I cannot allow the Jedi to be divided.”
I open my eyes; he is standing in the center of the room. No one dares speak.
“Your actions today, and over the last few years has shown to me that you do not hold the Order’s best interests at heart.”
“Master...” he tries to say but I cut him off with a wave of my hand.
“No more excuses, I am the Grand Master and as such my word is final. You are dismissed from the Order.” Emotions fly around the room, shock most evident. “Your lightsaber, give it to me.”
He does not move, and my anger builds. “Be grateful I do not strip the Force from you.”
I can see the disbelief in his face, the anger in his eyes.
He drops his saber and before it hits the floor he turns and levees the hall, the temple, and the Order, forever.
This may cause problems with others, but they will now know.
My will is law.

HeHe, yes.
You see, I have so many plot lines to follow, it all sort of runs together...
It's like, "Well, in my fic 'Left behind' Tahiri gets pregnant, and ... wait, I thought that was Completely Yours ... oh, yeah, it's both. And Anakin has to rescue ... no, wait, that's Completely Yours. And then Jacen goes evil ... no wait, that's Jamie's fic"
You get the picture. ;D
