Tahiri sighed in relief as she felt her daughter’s presence sweep over her.
Myri.
Tahiri was surprised when she responded. Mommy!?
Yes, Myri, it’s Mommy.
Tears came to her eyes.
Has Daddy found you, yet?
Tahiri paused as she dodged a falling piece of debris. Not quite.
She could sense her two year old daughter had something on her mind.
Mommy, how come you left me and Daddy?
Believe me, sweetie, it was out of my control. I couldn’t resist, or they’d find you. Bad people took me away from you and Daddy, and no one could stop them.
Daddy says your be-a-ootiful. He said that you wouldn’t leave me for the galaxy. I thought you left on purpose.
No, honey, I didn’t.
Yesterday, Daddy cried because you left. He didn’t want me to see him, he wanted to be brave for me, but I saw him. He said he missed you vewy much, and he’d give ‘nything to have you back.
Tahiri paused at the special thought of her Anakin crying on her behalf.
Then she smiled.
Since her mother said nothing, Myri continued, Mommy, do you love Daddy?
Yes, I do. Very much.
Daddy loves you. Do you love me?
Tahiri smiled. Very, very much, Myri.
I’m glad, because I love you very, VERY much!
Vergere motioned for her to exit the area she was in.
“It’s going to collapse!” Vergere exclaimed.
Tahiri ran across the catwalk to the other side – just in time to avoid being crushed by the south end’s ceiling. She averted her attention from Force-contact with her daughter to the present crisis. Tahiri ran with Vergere to higher ground. “How do you plan to get out of this mess?” Vergere asked.
“Destroy the cannons!” Tahiri called her lightsaber and datapad to her hand from her Vong bodyguard. She glanced at the screen. She had a message – received two years ago. Tahiri opened it while keeping a cautious eye on the battle.
To: Tahiri Veila, code 11830
From: Anakin Solo, code 11831
Subject: Where are you?
I am standing out here,
Can’t wait to see you.
It’s been way too long.
QUICK REPLY ENABLED
She put her datapad away after she sent one message via ‘quick reply’.
Tahiri looked up.
The emergency shut down lever was near, but dangerously close to one of the cannons, which could easily swivel around and blast her to oblivion. She fingered her lightsaber thoughtfully. With a soft grunt, she threw it directly at the lever. Her lightsaber ignited right as it flipped towards the machine and severed the emergency lever. All the cannons obediently stopped and shut down.
“Thank the Force,” Tahiri whispered. You’re clear.
Anakin cheered into his comlink as the shots subsided.
You’re clear.
“Tahiri got rid of the plasma cannons for us! Falcon, Shadow, and Rogue 15; follow me into base to terminate the vornskyrs and free Tahiri. Creature Tamer, Kypster, Sticks, Rogue 14, and Rogue 16; wait for my signal to obliviate the facility,” Anakin ordered.
”Copy, Little Brother.”
“Copy, Little Brother.”
“Copy, Little Brother.”
“Rogue Squadron copies, Little Brother.”
“We copy, kid,” Han Solo stated.
”We copy, Anakin,” Mara said.
Anakin put his X-Wing in auto land, and checked his datapad, which had bleeped a few moments earlier. He smiled at the message.
I love you.
He hopped out of the X-Wing. “Thanks, Artoo.”
[Anytime.]
Anakin reached the ‘back door’. “How do we get through THAT!?” He wondered aloud.
Han, Leia, Mara and Luke came up behind him. A couple vornskyr were patrolling the opposite side of the thick, menacing door. Anakin and Luke ignited their lightsabers. “I guess we’ll have to cut our way through.” They plunged their blades into the door and began to cut a sizable hole for passage.
Han, Leia, and Mara kept watch.
Han, usually laid back, shifted from foot to foot uncomfortably.
“Somethin’ ain’t right about this.”
Mara agreed. “It’s way too easy.”
“Vornskyr!” Leia exclaimed. “Practically an army!”
