Jaina Solo looked up from her work as the Lightning Rod docked. She was busy washing up the Falcon for her dad (his birthday present). Zekk? She thought, then abandoned her work so she could get a closer look. The Rod's hatch opened and Peckhum stepped out, searching the crowd for a particular person. Jaina ran up to him.
"Peckhum? What are you doing-"
"-Jaina Solo! Just the person I wanted to see. hurry, come with me inside, he doesn't have much time!" The old man graspd her hand and yanked her inside after him.
"Who?"
"Zekk!"
"What's wrong with him?" Jaina inquired, alarmed.
"I don't know, that's what I need you for!" Peckhum stopped walking so suddenly that Jaina rammed into his back. "Sorry, lass." He motioned to a bed with a very pale Zekk lying upon it.
"Zekk!" Jaina hurried to his bedside. "Zekk, can you hear me?" Her friend moaned softly.
"Jaina?" Zekk asked hoarsely. "Help me, please." He whispered.
"What's wrong, Zekk?" No response. "Zekk, what is wrong!!??" She checked for a pulse, he had a faint one. "Peckhum, I need you to stay by my side and if I'm completely still, don't be alarmed. That'd be a good thing," The old man nodded, still confused. "Ookay..." Jaina sighed and placed a hand on Zekk's chest. Suddenly, it seemed as if she was sucked into his mind.
"Zekk?" Jaina ran to her old friend. He was sitting on a bench (?), clutching his stomach. At the sound of her voice, he looked up.
"Jaina!" His lips parted into a broad grin, despite the obvious pain he was in.
"Let me help you, Zekk. What hurts?" Zekk frowned and pulled away from her touch.
"I can handle it," He caught sight of Jaina's look. "It hurts around my stomach." She removed his arm from its location above his wound and peered at the scar thoughtfully.
"What have you been doing, wrestling voxyn?" She teased.
"Well, actually... yeah. I had to do it to escape the academy," Zekk winced as Jaina probed a wound that didn't like to be probed.
"You ran away from the Shadow Academy?" Jaina asked, surprised. Zekk clasped her hand in his.
"I finally realized how wrong I've been... you were right, Jaina. I'm a fool," Zekk's eyes seemed to pour into Jaina's soul.
"I was mad at you, I was speaking in anger," She turned her attention back to his wounds.
"But your words were true. I realized that only when I was asked to assassinate you. I couldn't do it, Jaya. So, I ran away," Jaina finished tending to his wounds and looked up into his eyes.
"And they caught you?"
"Almost, but I escaped with many wounds. They weren't trying to capture me, they were trying to kill me. If they have a traitor, they don't have mercy, they murder," Zekk touched Jaina's cheek timidly with his hand. "I couldn't hold on to what I wasn't intended to be. I had to find what I am."
Jaina smiled. "And what are you?" Zekk cupped Jaina's cheek in his hand and pressed his lips to hers briefly.
"I'm in love," He whispered.
"I missed you, Zekk. I'd always hoped you'd return," She responded.
"Can you ever forgive me? Can you ever accept me for who I am now, and not what I was?" Zekk's eyes showed his emotional anxiety. Jaina responded by easing herself into his arms and kissed him tenderly for what seemed like an eternity. "That's a 'yes', right?" She laughed.
"Yes," Jaina leaned her head against his shoulder. "It is."
------------------------------------------------------------------
Jaina woke up to bright sunlight and cheerful bird chirping. She was lying on a king sized bed, still in her clothes from the previous day. She stirred and sat up slowly in bed. Zekk was watching her, his eyes seemed to indicate that he was deep in thought.
"You still in another world, or are you gonna tell me why I'm here? Hey, I don't echoe anymore," Jaina asked, realizing that she was now ou of Zekk's mind. Zekk looked into her eyes and smiled.
"I found you beside me in the Rod, and you were unconcious. So, I brought you here," He took a deep breath. "It was just a dream, wasn't it?"
"What was your dream?" Jaina asked, deciding to tease him. his eyes widened.
"I, uh, you were in my head.. uhh... I was wounded and you were tending my wounds," He fidgeted. "I'd better go." He stood to leave.
"Funny, I had the same dream,"
"And... you remember?"
"You sure are a good kisser," She laughed. "C'mere, flyboy," He grinned and hurried to her bedside, picked her up, and swung her around. "I love you, Zekk." She whispered.
"You do?!" Zekk's grin couldn't get any wider. "Will... will you... marry me?" Jaina grinned and said 'yes'. Zekk leaned down and kissed her passionately on the mouth. Yes, this was what he had been searching for.
This was home.
