Okay, this is my challenge response/AU fic. The original thread for this fic can be found on TF.N.

Disclaimer: Everything and everybody in this story are property of George Lucas. I, in no way, own any of them. No money was or will be made off of this story. I am just a poor Star Wars fan writing about my two favorite characters (Han and Leia). Please don't sue me! I don't have enough money worth suing for!
Note: Words in italics are thoughts. This is an AU fic that takes place between ROTS and ANH. Let's assume that Han is Leia's age. And Han and Leia met at age fourteen. They're now both sixteen. This is in response to the challenge, "Han has discovered a plot on Leia's life, and he needs to warn her. However, just yesterday, he offended a witch of Dathomir, and she punished him by cursing him with the loss of speech as well as the ability to write for one week. How can he warn Leia?"
Good Beginnings
The bell rang. Leia said goodbye to her friends, picked up her knapsack, and walked into her fifth period classroom.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Arbuckle!" she said cheerfully as she passed her teacher on the way to her seat.
"Hi, Leia!" He replied. "I trust that you have your short story completed?"
"Of course, Mr. Arbuckle!"
"Great! I look forward to reading it." Leia gave a satisfied smile.
"I think you'll be quite pleased with what I've written," Leia replied, with no hint of arrogance.
Leia glanced towards the doorway just in time to see him walk in. Who? Han Solo. He sauntered in, and took his seat across the classroom from Leia. He immediately slouched down in his seat, ready for another unpaticipatory day of blending in with the walls. Han hated school with a passion. It was such a waste of time. He was going to be a pilot, so what the heck did he need to go to school for anyways? Leia watched him closely. He just need a little more motivation, and he might actually like school. Mr. Arbuckle walked towards the front of the class as the last few students were settling into their seats.
"Since we had a test yesterday, you all know that it's time for our seat changes! Variety is the spice of life!" The class groaned at Mr. Arbuckle's frequently over-used line. "Gather your things, stand up, and I'll start assigning you your new seats."
Man, this guy is so predictable. And that 'variety is the spice of life' thing. That is so dumb. The spice of life comes from the Kessel mines. Duh Han couldn't help but make fun of the teacher, even if it was only in his head. Han looked across the room at Leia. She was so beautiful. Why did he have to pretend that he hated her? Why couldn't he just let go of what he was afraid to admit? As Leia would later say, Han could make it so difficult sometimes.
Mr. Arbuckle took his time assigning seats, letting the time drag on until it was almost worn out. Leia ended up sitting next to Daylin Tinau, a quiet boy who didn't cause trouble, so she didn't mind. Han, however, was seated next to Tira Kai Daine, an annoying girl from Dathomir. Tira Kai drove Han crazy. She was always bugging him, and then when he asked her to stop, she'd give him a nasty look and turn away like he'd done something wrong. Yes, Tira Kai had a lot of nerve to treat anyone that way. But to treat Han Solo that way, well, he'd just have to do something about that.
Han knew that this was going to spell trouble, and he was right. The second they sat down, she immediately started pestering him.
"Hey Solo!"
"Yeah?" he answered, annoyed.
"Whatcha doin'?" Although Tira Kai hadn't really said anything, Han's anger had already accumulated.
"I'm doing my work, Tira Kai, now leave me alone, and you'd better not say anything to me for the whole rest of this school day, or I don't know how bad you're gonna' feel in the morning, you stuck-up Dathomirian freak!" Han had made a huge mistake.
"Oh, you did not just say that!"
"Well, I guess I did," Han replied angrily.
"Well then you're going to pay for that Han Solo. And boy will you be sorry."
"Yeah, whatever." Han wasn't worried.
*****************************
To his dismay, Han's alarm rang early that morning. He rolled over sleepily and shut it off. He moaned. Or did he? Han heard no sound coming from his mouth! "What!??" he exclaimed quite loudly, yet nothing could be heard. Nothing was wrong with his ears. He had heard his alarm ring. He clapped a few times and made random noises. He heard them all except the ones coming from his own throat! It was that scheming little freak, Tira Kai! Oooh, I'm gonna' get her!
***********************
After school, Han headed over to the arcade, exhausted from his awful day at school. He couldn't communicate with anybody, and he had been sent to detention way too many times because his teachers got frustrated that Han didn't reply to any queries they had for him. He had opened his mouth as if he were speaking, but nothing had come out, no matter how many times he tried. He had also discovered in second period that none of his pens or pencils would work. Everybody else had gotten them to work, yet he couldn't get the same ones to write anything. Yes, he was cursed.
All day, Tira Kai had walked past him saying, "Thirteen hours, Solo, thirteen hours." Whatever that meant, Han assumed that was how long he had until the curse wore off. Boy would he be glad when that hour came.
He sat down at the mock bar(no alchohol was served there) and placed his order. "Mr. Fizzy, no ice." He received his drink, and sat there, trying to figure out what to do. Han overheard a couple of boys talking to each other while playing "Wampa Blaster 5000."
"Yeah, I heard that they're planning to assassinate Princess Leia," the first boy bragged to the second.
"Naw, you're foolin'!"
"No! I'm serious! Tomorrow, they're gonna' kidnap her, shoot her, and then post it on the holonet!"
"No way! Really?"
"Yup!"
Han's eyes widened as he heard this disturbing information. They were going to kidnap and kill the girl that he secretly loved, and then mock her by posting it on the holonet. He had to warn her. But how? He couldn't verbally tell her, and he couldn't write it down. How else was he supposed to communicate? Han thought for a few moments. I've got it! I'll get her to guess it by playing charades! Leia's a princess, so she should have the brilliance to guess what I'm trying to tell her.
Han ran off as fast as he could to Leia's palace. He might be able to intercept her before she got inside.
************************
Han made it just in time to catch Leia before she walked in the front gates of the palace. He began waving his arms like mad, trying to catch her attention. Leia turned to him.
"Han Solo, what in Alderaan's name are you doing?"
Han pointed to his mouth and then at her ear.
"You want to tell me something?"
Han nodded as if he were insane.
"Can't you just say what it is instead of all of this 'I can't talk' nerf-bologna that you're pulling?"
Han shook his head.
"Alright, what is it flyboy?"
Han had a problem. He hadn't really expected to get this far. He thought of the words the boys had said. One in particular stuck in his mind. Assassination. He mentally broke down the word into four parts. He turned around and began pointing at his butt.
"No, Han Solo, I am not going to sleep with you, or touch your butt, or whatever you're attempting to suggest. Now please step aside so that I may leave you and your crazy notions behind." Han shook his head. He put his hand in a fist with one finger pointing out, and dragged it across his neck, attempting to suggest death. Leia stared at him with an odd look in her eyes.
"I don't know what you're talking about," she stated.
After some time, several misunderstandings, and a miracle later, Han managed to inform Leia of the plot to murder her, and how Tira Kai had done something to his voice and his ability to use writing utensils. He had somehow miraculously explained that he had about seven hours left until it wore off. Leia stared in awe at the Corellian sixteen-year-old. How he had managed to uncover all of this was beyond her knowledge, but she knew that she was glad he had. It was this moment that she later figured was when she knew she loved him.
***********************
After two days of intense investigation, Leia's future murderers had been captured, and were now awaiting their fates locked away in prison. Leia had spent the time thinking about how a man that she had not cared for and appeared to hate her had saved her life. Han had really surprised her, and she had decided that she would have a few surprises up her sleeves for him.
************************
Leia walked to lunch that afternoon with a smile on her face, and a song in her heart. She bought her lunch and snuck up behind the lonely Corellian. Leia bent over and kissed his cheek. Han looked up as Leia turned and walked away. His eyes followed her as she made her way to her usual table. Half-way there, she turned around and smiled back at him. This could be the beginning of something good... *
